Shorter blog this week, well, because of course my house has turned into the next great virus-city yet again! Oh, and this time it’s wiping out the whole house. Breathe easy because it’s not Covid—thank everything holy. Took my kids on a fun outing and I get to pay for it for a week plus. *shrug* I’m coming to accept that this is going to be the norm around here for the next few months, though I am now pumping them with elderberry and Vitamins ABCD&E. Honestly, I am really just praying that they get it all out now and build up their immune systems to a good place so that when we are in Paris I’m not visiting the pharmacy daily. Although, they have some really good shit there, probably will grab a few things for myself… But needless to say it’s been a rough week and I am hoping before Christmas Eve we will all be back to our cheery selves so we can enjoy my favorite time of year!
After months of keeping my eyes open, watching all the sites, waiting for the best time, and hoping for the right price… our tickets are bought! Over the last two and half months I have browsed Google Flights, Hopper, and everything in between. On several occasions I was ready to buy due to fear this was the best the prices we’re going to get. Or the easiest flight schedule. Or the best connections… Because this trip is so very different than any I have taken in the past, I had to be so much pickier about the airline, flight times, and connections. When we have flown overseas in the past, we mostly looked for the best price because as just two adults we could do the weird hours, long layovers, and tight connections. Now, I can’t even imagine trying to make a close connection with two toddlers in tow. It will be hard enough with the best flights and the easiest connections *pops a bottle of wine* I know I have my work cut out for me. Going into this, I had really only wanted to travel Delta, KLM, Air France or Air Canada because these are ones I have used in the past and had nothing but great experiences with them. Not only are these some of the highest rated airlines but also, I know they take care of their fliers and I’m going to need all the help—and kind attendants—I can get.
I was so lucky and ended up finding an afternoon flight out of our airport with just one connection. You wouldn’t believe some of the layover times! I saw one that had you changing terminals from domestic to international in only 33 minutes!? I don’t care who you are or how well-versed of a traveler you are, there is no way to cross a major airport and switch terminals in 33 minutes. So even though that was a super great price for a ticket, and on a good airline, I absolutely knew that was not an option for us. Even with my hour and a half layover, I know that’s going to be tight trying to drag two kids, 2 carry-ons, and my sanity but I’m going to have to make it work. A huge plus to leaving later in the day is the boys may actually sleep for a good part of the 10-hour flight. We will land around lunchtime so we will just hit the ground running and do our best to get on Paris time as soon as possible. I’m praying jetlag is kind to us all, especially me! Deux cappuccino merci beaucoup!
So now that our apartment is booked and our flights are purchased, there’s only a few other things to check off the list. As I close in on the four month mark, I try every day to get myself really excited to help stave off the fear and anxiety. I scroll my She’s Gone To Paris Instagram page that is purely all things Paris. I let my heart and soul fall deeper in love and feed my ever longing need for the city of love.
More to come…
